50th Anniversary All-Star Rooks
Just a quick update on a little progress I made in my quest to acquire all 110 cards from the 2008 Topps 50th Anniversary All-Star Rookies insert set. I have slowly been working on this since they came out. I would have normally put a big dent in it by now but I didn’t really like the 2008 Topps design this year so I left them on the shelf in favor of other releases. I’ll finish building this one out through purchasing singles or trades.
This group came from several cards I purchased on Ebay for next to nothing. This is nice group as all three players are favorites of mine for one reason or another. Of course most of you know that Ivan Rodriguez is one of my All Time faves but you probably don’t know that I have been known to save some Roy Oswalt cards here and there.
I liked Oswalt from the beginning but after my daughter started dating and is now engaged to Roy’s long lost brother I have an additional interest in his cards. Some of the photos from Oswalt’s cards really remind me of my soon to be son in law Jason. My daughter didn’t want to admit it at first but the resemblance is uncanny.
Sweet Lou Piniella is another player I enjoyed watching play. Another reason I like this card is you don’t see Lou in his Royals uni very often. Lou was fun to watch as a player but I think I have enjoyed his antics as a manager even more.
With the addition of these three cards I am now sitting at 17 cards out of 110 for a 15% completion percentage. I have a few more in some pending trades so those numbers should go up shortly.

I’m still 27 away from completing my set. I wasn’t all that impressed with the selection of inserts in this year’s 08 Topps, but this one stuck with me.

I agree with you, this was the only insert set that hit with me this year from 08 Topps.
