Its ChromaPalooza Time

 tom brady topps chrome

I haven’t picked up a single pack of 2008 A&G so I figured it was time I did so. But Wally World had a different idea, they didn’t have single pack or blaster in the store. So whats a guy gonna do? I’ll go to the other end of the collecting spectrum and get some shiny cards.

There on the shelf we have two choices available, Bowman Chrome Baseball and Topps Chrome Football. The Bowman blisters look like somebody sat on them. I manage to find one lone pack behind some Texas Ranger team sets that seems to be in good shape. Next I grabbed two packs of 2008 Topps Chrome Football and put them on the conveyor.

It has been awhile since I picked up some wax. What little time I have spent with my cards lately I have been focusing on finding the rest of the Turkey Reds I need. I have also been working on some of the former Texas Longhorns I need too. I have been bidding on some autographed rookies but I have been unable to get them at the price I think they should be.

Lets take a look at what this little pack rip brings:

2008 Bowman Chrome Baseball

  • David Ortiz

  • D J Jones Prospect

  • Mark Teixeira

Okay, the Chromes look nice but the satisfaction was just not there. At least I have two more packs of something to open.

2008 Topps Chrome Pack One

  • Tom Brady

  • Brett Favre Flight to 420 #322

  • Reggie Smith Rookie Blue Refractor

  • Michael Strahan

Now this is more like it. Fantastic player selection and those Blue Refractors really look sweet. The Blue Border Refractor is inserted at a ratio of 1:6 packs. I feel much better now. Plus I got a Favre I needed for my Brett Favre Touch’em All player collection.

2008 Topps Chrome Pack Two

  • Shawn Crable Rookie

  • NFL Dynasties Tribute L. C. Greenwood

  • Honor Roll Chuck Bednarik

  • Bruce Davis Rookie

Not as strong as the first pack but it does yield two Rooks and two great looking inserts. I am a Patriotic kind of guy so I really love the Bednarik. I just might have to put that insert set together. To this day those Super Bowl losses for the Cowboys to the Steelers still haunt me. I can still see those images of Lynn Swann just like it were yesterday. Geeze…..

Anyway, back to a happier place with the eleven cards I just pulled. The Favre will find its way into a box to join all the others. I don’t have many Tom Brady cards so I just might have to keep this one. I am leaning right now toward collecting the Honor Roll inserts so for now I am keeping the Bednarik. The rest of the cards are available for trade and will be listed for sale probably on Sportlots.

It felt good to open a few packs and it helped to rekindle the itch to open some more. I will try another Wally World to see if they have any A&G. I can’t remember the last time I went to Target so maybe its time I went out of my way and checked them out.
