First Impressions 2007 Upper Deck Series One Baseball

2007 Upper Deck Series One BaseballThis was my first purchase of 2007 Upper Deck Series One Baseball. I bought two blaster boxes just before going on vacation a few days ago. I did not get the chance to open them before we left. I decided to open them while watching the Gamecast of the Rangers and Mariners on ESPN.Com tonight.

Anyway, each blaster box contained six packs of cards with each pack yielding five cards. My two boxes did not produce anything of real interest. If you have read a good bit of my posts I collect every Clemens and Pudge Rodriguez card I pull. These boxes were void of any of my favorite players except for a Derek Jeter card.

There were some problems with damaged cards. I had one complete pack that every card was stamped on the end when it was sealed in the pack leaving an impression of the seal pattern. I ended up with 12 cards damaged like this.

I did not pull any insert cards. There were five rookie cards in the two boxes but two of them were damaged in the pack sealing process. As for the cards themselves I am not impressed with the overall look. In my opinion the back of the card is better than the front. The backs contain the player’s entire Major League stats and a brief note about their previous year. There is a small head shot of each player in the top right corner next to the players name and bio.

The fronts of the cards are a disappointment to me. I don’t like the vertical team name and position on the sides of the card. The font is small and does not add any value to the appearance of the cards. The players name is in silver foil that tends to blend in on most of the cards I pulled. It’s just a boring appearance that makes me wish I had bought two blaster boxes of First Pitch or Opening Day instead.

I don’t think I will be buying any hobby boxes of this product. Have you opened any yet? If you have what did you think? Feel free to leave a comment.
