Another Etopps Allen & Ginter Gimmick- Presidential Hopefuls

Etopps Presidential Hopefuls

On the heels of the Etopps Allen & Ginter Super Bowl Champions cards Etopps will be offering cards of four of the Presidential hopefuls. These cards will be produced with the Etopps technology but with the design and size of Allen & Ginter. The cards feature Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Mitt Romney and John McCain. The cards will be available for purchase only on Super Tuesday.

The cards look nice featuring the candidates in varying poses of first pitch ceremonies. Etopps mentions capturing the bond between U.S. Presidents and Baseball, I think it is more about identifying an opportunity to sell more cards. These are great cards for political buffs, I would be more interested in a set that featured actual Presidents with actual artwork of the President throwing out the first pitch though.

Another part of the gimmick with the candidate cards is the opportunity to win bonus points for owning the cards of the eventual Democratic and Republican nominees. If you own the nominee’s card you get two bonus points for each card you own. Plus if you buy all four cards you get a free hobby pack of 2007 Allen & Ginter. For every four card set you buy you get one hobby pack of A&G.

If you want these then Super Tuesday, February 5th is the day. As for me I will be sitting this one out.

Heh, Steve from White Sox Cards will want that Obama. I can’t tell what cap the other two are wearing. Will Romney have one card for each team?

LOL at this set. I did buy the Tom Brady Champion eTopps Ginter card the other day though. I’m going to have it shipped the second it’s available and it will be going right into the personal collection!

    Dayf,

    Cracked me up.

Hey Jason, I thought about getting the Brady just because I think that is one of the few that may hold its value. But then again its Etopps so probably not. I do want the Staubach though.

Sure, I’d possibly get the Obama card. Only as an oddity though. Although, I did vote for him for senator. That would strictly be an oddball.

Clinton is probably the Yankees, but it’s hard to see. She should be wearing a Cubs hat, since that’s the team that was her favorite before moving to New York.

McCain almost looks like the Marlins, but it’s very hard to tell from that image.

  5. Joey Says:

It kind of looks like McCain’s jacket might say World Series on the front.

I personally like the in-hand E-Topps cards. I’m a big fan of Topps uncirculated cards in general, I just think they look really nice in that uncirculated case with the sticker sealing it up.

    WHERE IS RON PAUL???

    lol

  8. Joey Says:

Who, just kidding. I guess Topps is not giving him a chance to win.

These cards have been holding their own and turned a good profit for the few folks who got them right at IPO. The O’Bama card is the darling of the set at over $40 right now. Clinton and McCain are traded at $20 each and Romney is just holding the IPO price because a few people are hording them.
If you had look closer at the etopps program you would have seen that there are President cards there. Been out for almost a year and doing well. Reagan is one of the better ones and trades for about $40-$50 each.
Etopps is an intresting way to collect and hold these cards, you might try it before you bash it.

    Thanks for the comments Joe.

I currently own 83 Etopps cards with only 8 of those in positive territory. Of those 8 only 3 were purchased at the IPO. The other 5 were either picked up on trades or on Ebay. I like the concept of Etopps I have just been disapointed in the performance of many of the cards. I guess I should get an advisor to help me pick the right ones.

The good news for me is that I have been able to pick up several cards that I wanted for less than two bucks.

Thanks again for your input and if you have any hot tips send them my way. If you would like to write a guest post about your experience with Etopps let me know.
